Drilling dynamics

Our expert in Structural dynamics

Our top expert has 20 years of experience in the mechanics and dynamics of mechanical systems employed in the upstream oil and gas services industry. His technical work has focused in a few areas: 1) the dynamic behavior of downhole tools used in the oil and gas industry 2) the buckling behavior of long tubulars inside a horizontal cylindrical constraint 3) surface control algorithms aimed at smooth drilling 4) monitoring and control algorithms that use combined surface and downhole drilling data to enable more efficient drilling.

Our expert has worked closely with university research groups throughout his career. He has been the Principal Investigator on multiyear collaborations with research groups at Harvard and MIT. He has served on PhD dissertation committees and lectured for undergraduate courses at Harvard and MIT. He also has led sessions at international conferences dedicated to bringing together mechanical and materials experts from academia and the oilfield.

Our expert is known in the oil and gas industry as an industry expert in drilling dynamics and surface control algorithms. He has collaborated directly with many international clients including Exxon-Mobil, Shell, and Saudi-Aramco. He also has extensive experience performing technical evaluations of companies under consideration for acquisition or early-stage investment.

Besides, our expert is an inventor on more than 25 patents, an author on more than 15 peer-reviewed journal articles, and an active presenter in industry and academic conferences. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Yale University, a master’s in Applied Mathematics and doctorate in Solid Mechanics from Harvard University, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Aero/Astro Department at MIT.
