Mahantesh Hiremath has over 30 years of wide range of industry experience – space, energy, transportation and infrastructure. He is among top 5 in the world to have designed and analyzed complex systems in four environments – deep underground strategic petroleum reserves, off-shore oil Dr. Hiremath considers the space environment to the most challenging.

Dr. Hiremath is a highly skilled and results-oriented professional with proven ability to assess and manage complex programs; is viewed as a strong troubleshooter and problem solver. He has been successful in intense and demanding environments, providing decisive team leadership with a track record of motivating and developing team players. His areas of expertise include – Systems Engineering Project Management, Mechanical Engineering – Design, Analysis, Manufacturing & Testing, Space Technology, Risk Analysis and FMEA.

He is currently working as Senior Technical Director at SpinLaunch, a startup that is developing a revolutionary non-rocket launch system to catapult small satellites into low-earth orbit. Prior to that he spent over a couple of decades at SSL in various roles at including Distinguished Engineer (VP of Engineering), Principal Systems Engineer and Deployment Subsystems Manager. Earlier, Dr. Hiremath held important leadership positions at ARES Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and Stellar Solutions.

In 2011, Dr. Hiremath was elected as Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Later in 2013, through a nationwide search he was nominated as ASME’s Congressional Fellow in 2013 and served for a year on the Capitol Hill as Technical Advisor to the Science, Space and Technology Committee of the US House of Representatives. 

He currently serves on ASME’s Board of Governors, its highest decision making body. He is also an Adjunct Faculty in Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the Santa Clara University. Dr. Hiremath received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Structural Dynamics from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Later, Dr. Hiremath earned the Certificate in Systems Engineering from Stanford University.

Dr. Hiremath is an avid long-distance runner and voracious reader of sports and politics. He has successfully completed four San Francisco marathons and plans to keep running till his knees permit.
